Growing up, my family was very poor. We relied on handouts and donations from the church just to get by.

One day, I was at home playing outside with my friends. I heard my Dad calling me to come in and that someone was looking for me. I was 8 years old. I thought this was weird. Who is looking for me? I went inside the house and I was met by a couple from the church. They were excited to see me which made it even more unusual. They brought with them a one-piece ski outfit and told me to try it on. When I put it on, it fit me perfectly. I noticed the couple was happy that it fit me so well and they gave each other a hug. The lady smiled and said to me, "I knew this would fit you. You can keep it!"  I was so happy and excited. I had never had a one-piece ski outfit before.

For years, I thought about that incident because I could not comprehend what had happened. Why would someone we barely knew come to our house to give me something? Especially when they did not get anything in return. The thought of them being really happy about it confused me even more.

It has been roughly 40 years and the memory of that incident still brings me a lot of joy. A kind gesture by others meant so much to my family and I. FastExpert Cares was inspired by this couple from the church and the idea that one small act of kindness can make a big difference in someone else's life.
