Dave helped me find, buy, then sell a condo in Old Town Alexandria. Heres the short review, read the following paragraphs for more details. On the buying side Dave was fantastic, and I highly recommend him. On the selling side he got the job done, but it was a little rocky along the way.Buying details: (2011)I didnt know exactly what I wanted. Dave took the time to show me places, discuss what I liked and what I didnt, get to know me better as a person, and used all that information to hone in on a place that ended up being perfect for me. Not much else to say, it was a great experience and I had that condo for 6 years before moving out of the area.Selling details: (2017)On the selling side, things were a little less smooth. First, the good stuff... he listened to my situation, talked about the timeline, did everything he could to help me meet my goals, and eventually we got the sale.On the negative side... the one thing that really bothered me was the listing pictures. We had discussed how/when to take pictures so that the place would look nice, and even considered hiring a professional to come take care of it. Dave ended up taking the pictures himself... with his cell phone... during carpet installation... Several of the pictures looked terrible because they had loose carpet leaning up against the wall. I ended up fixing this by retaking the pictures myself.On the advice/preperation side, I believe that he gave advice thinking it was in the best interest of selling the unit or saving me money. However, I dont believe all of his advice was accurate (easy to say looking back...). Examples:1) He recommended that I install new berber carpet because it is nicer, lasts longer, and buyers would appreciate the higher quality. So I spent the extra $600 to get berber instead of the cheap stuff. Everyone I talked to after I made the purchase said they would have preferred the cheaper carpet. Overall, this isnt a big deal, but I could have saved $600.2) He specifically recommended that I should NOT upgrade the kitchen. Generally speaking, I think this is good advice. However, in the 4 months it took to sell my unit, I saw 3 others in the same complex sell for $20k-40k more than mine, and the only real difference I could see was that they had nicer kitchens. It is hard to say for certain, and maybe it isnt fair to Dave, but I think that my condo would have sold much quicker and for more money if I had spent a little more up front to upgrade the kitchen.Overall, I think Dave is a great guy and a good agent. If you are looking to buy or rent a place then I HIGHLY recommend him.

When we first decided to begin house hunting, we asked several friends who had recently purchased homes if they would recommend their realtors to us. One of the names we received was Daves so we decided to reach out to him to try and find a time to meet. One of the things that struck us at our first meeting was Daves laid back and comfortable style. As first time home buyers we were very nervous and easily excitable due to what seemed would be a challenging and overwhelming process. After meeting with Dave for the first time, that process already seemed much more manageable and less daunting. He gave us all the necessary information in an easy to digest format so we left each meeting knowing exactly what we needed to do next. Each step was very clear. It was obvious that Dave had a wealth of knowledge and we always trusted that the advice he was giving us was sound.The second thing we noticed about Dave was his flexibility. We do not have the easiest of schedules to work around but Dave always found ways to fit into our challenging schedules. Whether that meant meeting up on a lunch break or at 8 or 9pm, Dave always made sure were able to make it work. Had it not been for his willingness to work with us, we never would have found our dream house so easily. We signed the contract on our new home around 10pm at a nearby Safeway! Thirdly, Dave did a great job of listening to our requirements and only showing us properties that really met all of them. We never once felt like we had wasted time by seeing a property that didnt meet our needs. It was just a matter of finding the right one that we loved and that all of the pieces fell into place with. The home we bought meets all of our initial requirements and more! We couldnt be happier here.Lastly, we honestly enjoyed spending time with Dave. He has a great personality and is so easy to get along with. We genuinely looked forward to meeting with him throughout the process and felt as though we could talk to him as not just a realtor, but a friend. We are looking forward to having him over in the near future once weve settled into our new place!
