Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience with Gilli. We had reached out to a friend who is in real estate but only licensed in NY to help us in NJ. His colleague had suggested Gilli as NJ licensed agent so he suggested her to us. Prior to that, we had met several agents going to open houses on our own, but took the recommendation to hire her to help us buy a property we had already seen and liked. We asked for her advice on pricing strategy for our first offer and the advice she gave us was based on her own self-interest of maximizing the buying price. The price she suggested we START at was well above where we ended up. Im glad we didnt take her advice or we would have paid close to 100,000 or more or walked away from the deal altogether. The price she was suggesting would be the bottom starting point was significantly above what we thought was a fair price. I had to show her other comps in the area to show her where we were coming from and why her suggestion was too high. She also seemed like she didnt even push hard for our final offer. We told her what it was and she said the seller would need us to come up, but when we told her were firm on that number, she called them back and literally less than 5 minutes later, the seller had accepted. It felt like she was just trying to work us for more and not actually representing us and our interest. I dont think she had even presented it yet, when she asked us to increase our price again. We regret hiring her and having to pay the fees. On top of the poor negotiation experience, she also screwed over a very close friend of ours and her colleague. Our friend was supposed to get a referral fee for referring us to her and she not only refused to give it to him, but she also sent him a slew of nasty communications including personally attacking us (the buyers) and trying to tell him that we (the buyers and the referring agent) must not value the friendship with him since we hadnt hired him. As I stated above, he wasnt licensed in NJ and he and his wife are very close friends of ours and were 2 of 36 people we invited to our small wedding abroad. It was ruthless and selfish to our friend and offensive and disappointing to us. All in all, we were greatly disappointed by her negotiation skills, her treatment of us as a client, and by her lack of ethics.

We interviewed five agents and found Gilli to surpass others, by far, in terms of communication skills and services offered. She offered to completely cover the expense of painting and staging the apartment. Gilli came prepared with photographs of previous staging jobs and those looked impressive. When the property came on market, I was very pleased with the results: the description, the photos - everything looked top notch. Gilli conducted dozens of showings and open houses, I lost the count to be honest. She met with prospective buyers on their schedule, sometimes providing multiple showings to the same buyer. After accepting an offer (while it was still in attorney review), we received a better offer, and Gilli helped negotiate a higher price with the original bidder. All in all, we are very happy that we hired Gilli Axel as our listing agent. We always felt that she was on our side.
