My husband and I were first time home buyers anxiously entering the market this past spring and looking to relocate from our tiny Brooklyn apartment to a house in Westchester. We wanted to find a move-in ready 3 bedroom in our budget, with a nice yard (preferably fenced), in a pleasant neighborhood that was within walking distance to the train for commuting into the city for work. We talked to a few different realtors early on and decided to go with Melissa because she seemed the most honest and realistic, and she didn't try to push or "sell" us into pursuing homes we didn't love. She prepared us for the craze of the market, told us what to expect, and was knowledgeable during our walk throughs--pointing out bad windows, structural damage, old boilers, etc. (basically, the hidden costs you're not yet aware of as a first timer). She helped us explore the different areas, guided us through 5 different auctions, and never pushed us outside of our comfort zone when it came to price, terms, or timeline. She's also just really pleasant to be around and look at houses with; she made us feel comfortable. We did become increasingly aggressive after our first couple of offers because we realized the state of the market demanded it. In the end, we found a beautiful home and her guidance helped us pull together a strong and quick offer that closed the deal without going to auction. We also used many of her contacts for the inspection, home repairs, painting, etc. and these recommendations have been invaluable. She also recently dropped off the most incredible housewarming present that is so unbelievable I won't go into too much detail here. Suffice to say, it was fun and thoughtful and personal--which is also how I'd sum up Melissa's style.
