As first-generation Sonoma County residents ?word-of-mouth? was not a usable reference to begin our real estate process. Instead, we started our home search online and began touring homes during open houses. Quickly we identified a pattern: walk into house, receive quick greeting followed by ?are you working with an agent? Are you prequalified? Here, sign up for my service to send you homes that meet your criteria?,? tour home and then sneakily make an escape. Even though we knew the questions help agents funnel the serious from non-serious buyers, they routinely felt offensive and intimidating. We?ll never forget the day we met Ernest: we showed up to an open-house, and unlike all other open houses, Ernest had a casual confidence which felt nothing but classy and welcoming. Instantly we knew we wanted him to be our agent. Worried that he would not be interested in helping a first-time home buyer we spent weeks debating whether or not to call him. After calling we learned that clearly was not the case. Ernest is very personable and quick to respond to questions and emails. We can?t tell you how lucky we feel to have connected with him and his team. Ernest met with us in his office and explained the entire process. Ernest was always accommodating with our work schedules ? it was not uncommon for us to conference call on a weekend, at 10pm at night or even while Ernest was vacationing in Hawaii. Ernest?s real estate knowledge spans far beyond negotiating skills ? he is often able to comment and provide insight on laws, chronology of home construction & design, DIY projects, and more. Ernest introduced us to Valora, his Property Acquisition Manager, and Eric his Mortgage Broker and they both were absolutely outstanding. Touring properties with Valora felt like spending time with a best friend - she showed us countless properties and was always helpful, knowledgeable, and honest with perspectives on homes and neighborhoods; Eric met with us to explain the mortgage process and the tax benefits we?d begin to reap. We purchased our home for $27,000 less than the list price. Additionally the home appraised above our purchase price! We highly recommend Ernest Berghof and his entire team ? honestly, working with each of them felt like having a friend on your side.
