FastExpert Donation Provides 45,000 Meals to Feeding America West Michigan

Donation to Beat Hunger

The staff at FastExpert are always looking for ways to give back to communities that are important to us. We believe that helping others should be a daily occurrence. Part of our job is to find places that need it most.

When thinking about organizations that would benefit from the FastExpert Cares donation this season, the rising cost of food came to mind. Many Americans are struggling to pay for groceries. Individuals are having a hard time making their paychecks stretch as far as they used to.

Partnering with Feeding America West Michigan

The pain of hunger is felt all over the US and in places we call home. One of those places is the Grand Rapids area of Michigan. This is an area of the country full of hard-working people and a beautiful place to grow up. Many people in these counties have felt the strain on their wallets. They try to make ends meet and rely on non-profits to help fill the gaps.

One organization that has been fighting hunger for over 40 years in much of the state of Michigan is Feeding America West Michigan. They serve families and individuals in 40 of Michigan’s 83 counties, including Grand Rapids and all of the Upper Peninsula. In the time they’ve been active, they have served over 500 million meals worth of food to people in need.

Sharing Surplus Food

Products are collected from surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, retailers, and the USDA and distributed by volunteers. They are distributed through food pantries, youth programs, prepared meal programs, and more specialized needs programs.

They’ve launched programs specifically aimed at preventing hunger in kids. During the summertime, when kids don’t have access to school meals, Feeding America West Michigan partners with libraries to provide lunches to kids who come in hungry. This helps take the burden off parents who have relied on the school to supplement their meals but don’t have that option in the summer months.

Hunger seems like such a simple problem to fix, but without organizations and volunteers to connect food to the hungry, it’s anything but simple. With donations like that from FastExpert, organizations like Feeding America West Michigan can make a bigger difference in the lives of those who really need it.
