A little under a year ago I called Berta Smith on a reference from one of the teachers I work with, whose niece worked with her a few years ago. At the time, Berta taught me a lot that I did not know about the housing market, explained so many checklist items that I should be focusing on, encouraged me to keep saving money, and when I felt good and ready, told me to reach out to her again to begin the process for real. Toward the beginning of the calendar year, I hit that point, and reached out to her again with a goal of hopefully being in a new place for the summer, when my current apartment lease ran out and with an easier transition as a teacher. With the market as it is currently, I felt like we were going to just keep "hanging out" with Berta at random houses every week and putting offers in only to be disappointed the next day. We were booking visits and showings multiple times a week but to no avail. Around Easter, I took a few days to visit my family on Long Island, giving us a much needed pause and refresh in the search process. When I returned, one of the houses that popped up on my portal looked enticing, so I texted Berta to set up an appointment. We immediately could see ourselves making this place our own, and put in a strong offer right away. At this point, Berta could certainly sense that this was the right house for us. Having previously built a very positive relationship with the Seller's agent, Berta kept in constant communication with him and us, and ultimately we created an offer that the Sellers accepted. During the "waiting period," the Seller's agent had asked Berta if we would want some items (lawnmower, grill, tools, etc.) that the Sellers could not fit into their moving truck. I accepted, thinking "why not?" When we did our final walkthrough, we were both amazed at the amount of home goods these people had left for us, and along with a kind note of welcome! I have never felt more like the stars had aligned and that everything that was meant to happen with this home-buying process ended up perfectly. Having lived through the past year and a half, no occupation has been without stress and hardship. For example, as a band teacher, I'm just now starting to allow my band students to perform in public for the first time since December 2019 at the school graduation ceremony this weekend. After speaking with Berta yesterday after my closing (the two of us nearly in tears of joy together) I understood how meaningful making this sale was to her, as the housing market has been extremely difficult on realtors lately. There are not enough words of thanks to express how much I appreciate everything Berta has done for us over the past year. I am walking away from this process a knowledgeable home-buyer, financially sound and not house-poor, and with a place that I absolutely love and see the potential in to be something amazing. This is all because of Berta's hard work, faith, and persistence, and I am eternally grateful

Berta is amazing! I'm a first time homebuyer in a very difficult market, and Berta made the experience very pleasurable. She is honest and straight to the point. Berta helped us to sell 2 homes and purchase our new home. She was more than amazing! She listens until she fully understands what your expectations and needs are. She works tirelessly until she finds what you are looking for and best of all: She was able to easily take stressful situations and turn them into moments of fun and laughter! Our first house, which was an estate settlement sold in 4 days at top price! I believe because she showed us how to properly de-clutter and stage the home. The second home we sold in only 3 weeks! she knew the proper timing of when to put it on the market and had done extensive research on the other homes for sale in our area so that we could get fair top value! Her patience and encouragement through that process will always be appreciated! And the home she found us to purchase- right out of our dreams!!!
