What do agents REALLY do? This was a question I asked myself many times, especially using a buyer's agent. In my past home purchases, I always felt like my buyer's agent was largely just someone I had to go through to get to see homes. Sure, they wrote offers, but wasn't that just filling in a form? I was jaded and grumpy about it - they were just in it for the commission. When I started my new home search in this crazy market, I had an even worse experience - an agent who actually told me "I don't get paid to show you houses - I get paid to make deals." He was implying I was wasting his time by not offering tens of thousands of dollars in due diligence money.After taking a break, I found Matt. He's simply been amazing through the entire process. Let me outline some ways:- He was incredibly patient showing me homes in a variety of price ranges, never pressuring me one way or another- He was realistic about what a home could sell for, what would be easy, and what would be difficult to get- He understood my requirements and didn't try to change them (for example, I wasn't going to put down $20k DD)- He was responsive, often providing me with information I requested within minutes- He knew about homes and I swear this guy lives to get dirty in crawl spaces even when I told him I wasn't going to buy a home- As we were approaching the end of the process and nearing closing, he took many extra steps, like scheduling repairs FOR THE SELLER to ensure my requirements were met and the deal would close- After closing, he's STILL helping me, recommending services and helping where he can- Most importantly, he got me a great deal and handled all the negotiations fairly and transparently for both me as a buyer and for the sellerSo, dear reader, as you can tell, I have no hesitation in recommending Matt. I would not hestitate to use him again or recommend him to my friends and family. He's a great agent and, honestly, just a great human being. If you choose him, you will not be disappointed either.
