Utilizing Kristi Shorts as an agent was a strange experience. My husband and I were at the beginning of the house hunting process looking for our first home purchase. Shorts name dropped our banker and a socialite realtor so we assumed she would have the influence needed for negotiations and would be a good advocate for us on the market. However, things started to go downhill after our first showing. She put a time-limit on our decision process, pressuring us to contact her by the end of the evening with an offer or a pass. This happened with every property. She would say things like, "You won't find another house like this for the price. It will be under contract by tomorrow so you need to go ahead and put in an offer." But we started to notice that these "golden opportunity" homes (which were mediocre at best) were staying stuck on the market for weeks. If we had concerns about broken or shabby features of the home, she'd brush us off and say, "Don't worry about that." Sometimes, she'd even contradict us outright about our own preferences. It was obvious she did not understand our vision. She was constantly reminding us that we wouldn't/couldn't find what we were looking for within our budget. It was discouraging, stressful, and miserable. She became less responsive over time, and we missed opportunities to tour homes due to her lack of prioritizing. Shorts was more interested in lauding her career and connections than she was learning our needs. She only ended up showing us that first house. All the others we had to drive to on our own. On the second scheduled showing about a month later, she was two hours late to the showing and then rushed me through the tour because "other people were waiting." We let her go after that. In response, she repeatedly called me to the point where I had to block her number. It was embarrassing. I'm so glad we went with our gut instead of according to Kristi's sales scripts because we lucked out on a high quality, modern, renovated property in the best school district in the area, with loads of personality and a back yard big enough to be our own private park right in the center of town. My advice for first-time home buyers: do your own research, stick to your own vision, and don't let realtors pull the wool over your eyes just because you are young or have a smaller budget. How much money you have to spend should never determine your value and you are NOT just a notch on a realtors belt. It's YOUR future, YOUR livelihood, YOUR finances. If a realtor does not have a vivid revelation of that, dump them quick fast in a hurry.
