I do not believe I would have been able to buy a home without Kate. She is so knowledgable and caring, I just knew I could trust her to take care of me throughout the process and to ultimately find a home that would fit my unique needs. We?ve been enjoying the new house Kate helped us find so much that I?m 2 months late in writing her a review! Moving across country to a new state during the most chaotic housing market in my lifetime with little time to see houses in person, my partner and I needed a Realtor we could trust, and from our first conversations to our closing and beyond, Kate went beyond trustworthy to a delightful friend welcoming us to Maine. Kate?s relational skills also exceed professionalism and show genuine care. Her attention to details during Zoom and in-person showings alike and good-humored, compassionate negotiation between my partner and I as we nailed down at times conflicting home desires put me at ease. She was incredibly patient and thoughtful with my anxious mother-in-law when we visited and toured towns, and with me as I fretted over the social justice ramifications of the housing bubble and how to advocate for change. She and her colleagues at Portside take a stand for housing and racial justice in their policies and donated a portion of proceeds to a local nonprofit of our choice. Kate even showed up to our closing with not only some local goodies for us but also a bouquet of in-season daffodils for the seller?s agent. She truly appreciates the emotional labor needed to buy and sell homes. Kate?s attorney skills meant she sleuthed out any anomalies with the deeds, permits, and inspections (in our case, a missing permit for finishing the basement 50 years earlier) when we made our offer (only our second one despite horror stories of others in the market getting rejected dozens of times before finding a home!), ensuring that we as buyers and the sellers went into the deal with eyes wide open and made it to closing without a hitch. As a Mainer herself, parent, spouse, active community member, former dog mom, and proper Portland-area foodie, Kate offered invaluable tips and perspectives on all aspects of life Greater Portland: her husband?s ratings of cycling trails, her understanding of mutual aid activities and diversity in various neighborhoods, community gardening initiatives, how her niece and nephew liked an elementary school in a district we looked at, recreation offerings, her favorite restaurants, and hidden gem off-leash dog areas. It was a true pleasure to work with Kate and I?m only sad we won?t need her services again for decades since she found us the perfect place we?d envisioned, down to the dual trail and bus route access, finished basement, hillside location, and friendly, dog-loving, salt-of-the-earth neighbors. We started our search for a Duplex when seemingly everyone else did, so Multi-units were in short supply and moving quickly on the market. Even so, Kate spent 14 months patiently finding the right property for us. She moved at our tempo and never pressured us, while also promptly providing us with informed advice when asked.
