As the market languished in 2009, John J. Dean Jr. saw an opportunity to leverage his tech marketing and startup skills to provide a unique, tech-forward experience for homebuyers and sellers. He married his two passions for connecting with people and technology, creating an exciting new real estate experience. This union propelled him into a top-producing agent working with discriminating clients of luxury properties in just three short years. When Dean relocated to Boston, he acclimated himself to the area by networking with local businesses and becoming the "go-to" person for interesting food experiences. As such, he's earned certification and membership in several industry associations, such as past president of the Cambridge Association of Realtors and assisting Our Place Day Care, which serves homeless children in Cambridge. In 2017, Dean made a move to Engel & Voelkers, known for its worldwide luxury lifestyle brand. He's been recognized by the company as a World Class Elite Advisor, assisting first-time and luxury buyers, sellers and investors in Greater Boston and across the globe. When he's not advising clients, Dean and his wife foster children, having adopted a daughter and hoping to grow their family again. He learned winemaking "the old way" with his grandfather and also enjoys fly fishing.

I write this review with a deep sense of gratitude. Speaking for my spouse, my grown children, my sister and myself, I am hard-pressed to find words to adequately praise John Dean and everything he did for us as our realtor. This was the first experience selling a property for me and my immediate family. None of us knew how complicated selling a Boston condo could, and did get. Having such an ally and fighter in our corner as John Dean made us feel confident throughout the whole process, and our lives much calmer. He discovered some hidden problems lurking in the master deed of our HOA which would have come back to legally haunt us, and then he resolved them for us! John Dean is the very best! It took us three years to find our home and he stuck with us through it all. He was patient and very realistic about the market and trends we would likely see. Additionally, he has an expansive network of providers that are necessary for the home-buying process and beyond, and all of his recommendations were also phenomenal. How can I differentiate my home from others on the market?

This is somewhat of a loaded question, especially if you are trying to sell the home alone. I think the first step is to speak with a real estate agent who is fluent in your market. I would explore things different marketing tactics, staging, drone photography as well as video. It boils down to getting the most eyes on your property.

What are the pros and cons of an HOA?

HOAs are great if you do not wish to handle many things, like maintenance. They also provide amenities like pools, security, and other services. They can be helpful. On the flip side, some can be a bit overbearing. I would recommend that you review meeting minutes and the bylaws before purchasing in any association.

What do I need to disclose when selling a home?

There should be clarity on any issues with a home. Disclosure is the name of the game in MA and I would assume it would hold true in any market. Fail to disclose could cause massive legal issues. Disclose .. disclose ... disclose.

Is it risky to buy a FSBO home with renter living in it?

There are several issues. What if the renter does not leave ? What if they are in a lease ? What if damage is done at the end of the lease. Way to many issues to proceed without proper caution and documentation on the situation

What should I renovate?

Hard to answer this question without seeing the home but a fresh coat of paint does wonders and a good cleaner and stager to get the home photo ready. Declutter and let the experts help you. Upgrades can be different in every market and price point. Talk with your agent about it. I do it all the time for my clients.
