About John Cotter
I've been licensed in the state of Michigan since 2005. I come from a real estate household so I grew up around the profession. I kid people that I've been in the business for 46 years, I've been around it my whole life. I think that exposure, along with having a great mentor; has afforded me a certain level of understanding to what buyers and sellers each need from a real estate transaction. While no two people are alike, most want someone who can provide great service and tangible value(knowledge). I love what I do because it allows me to help and serve others in ways where I know I make a difference. This is due in large part because I care. Also, it's because I have a knowledge or skill set that is valuable and I can help people and counsel them on the many decisions that need to be made during the course of a sale or purchase. Because there are steps involved with a real estate transaction, it's vitally important to have an informal meeting at the front end. This is particularly critical with first-time buyers. There needs to be a discussion about the process, what to expect, (what they would like or expect from me) and a Q&A so there aren't any surprises down the line. 1) What advice would you give a buyer trying to purchase a home?
Align yourself with a seasoned agent. This is a skills based market.
2) What advice would you give a seller trying to sell their home?
Align yourself with a seasoned agent who knows the market and will give you the advice you need to sell your home in a short period of time. Homes that are in tip-top shape are still selling quickly. Homes with deferred maintenance or are dated aesthetically, take longer to sell. Pricing your home properly hasn't been more critical than it is now for a long time. First impressions have never been more important. Buyers have the option to be picky.
3) What types of clients have you worked with?
It runs the gamut. First-time buyers, investors, and seasoned sellers.
4) Describe a recent transaction you are fond of. How did it go?
Clients, who were referred to me, were reticent to work with me initially because they had been told a week before from a different agent that their home was worth significantly more than it was worth in the open market. Numbers do not lie. I provided them the information they needed from a price standpoint to make the most informed decision as far as price as well as my marketing proposal. They went out on a limb and decided to list with me. We went under contract in short order and they were so happy with my performance that they bought me lunch and gave me raving reviews online. They have also referred me to another person. They will be my clients for life and I am so appreciative of the opportunity that they gave me. They listened and it paid dividends.
5) How did you get started in Real Estate?
My mentor is my dad. He's been selling real estate successfully for over 50 years. It's in my blood. I eat, sleep, and breathe real estate.
6) Do you have any special education or training that will benefit your clients?
I am a Realtor, member of the National Association of Realtors. I am also a GMAR member. I have also been certified in Keller Williams Luxury Program. Top Producing agent who was a top 500 agent in all of Metro Detroit- out of 17,000 licensed agents. Hour Detroit Real Estate All-Star
