Elias Thomas

Exciting news for 2018 - Elias was one of the five Realtors (out of 1.4 Million Realtors nationwide) who was named winner of the GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD for his outstanding service to his local community, as well as those throughout the world. With this recognition came a grant from Wells Fargo in the amount of $10,000 to be donated to the Rotary Club of Sanford-Springvale, Maine to be used for further humanitarian efforts in India. Elias was named REALTOR OF THE YEAR for 2016, for York County, Maine. Elias also served as President of the Board of Trustees of the York County council of the Maine Association of Realtors for 2018, and remains a trustee. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Maine Association of Realtors. BACKGROUND Elias was born and raised in Portland, Maine. He is president and co-owner, with his wife Jane, of EXIT Key Real Estate, Inc., in Shapleigh, Maine. Elias is a member of the York County Board of Realtors, the Maine Association of Realtors, the National Board of Realtors and holds the GRI Realtor designation. In 1969, Elias married Jane Leach and the following year, they joined Jane's father, Richard "DUFFY" Leach, when he opened a branch office in the building that for some forty years had been known as the Mousam Lake Dinette. Elias began as the office manager, but quickly became licensed and moved into sales of lake and country properties in the area. Shortly thereafter, he became licensed in the state of New Hampshire, in order to provide better service to both seller and buyer clients and customers in the area. In 1978, Elias was invited to join the Rotary Club of Sanford-Springvale. Several years later, he served as the club's president and subsequently served as president of the Rotary Club of South Berwick, and eventually as District Governor of Rotary's District 7780, comprised of clubs in southwestern Maine, southeastern New Hampshire and one club in Newburyport, Massachusetts. "It's all about giving back - to the communities in which we live, as well as to the communities we may never see, but which need our support." This has been Elias' creed for most of his life, and most especially during his time as a member of Rotary. During his year as District Governor, Elias led the effort to raise awareness about homelessness throughout the district, and helped raise tens of thousands of dollars to support the homeless, the poor and the hungry. He has been recognized locally, as well as internationally, for his charitable work and his participation in Rotary's worldwide project of polio eradication. Elias has been active in his community, having served as member and chairman of the Acton Warrant & Finance Committee, and as Town Moderator. He has also served on several Boards of Directors, including H. D. Goodall Hospital, York County Community Concert Association, Sanford Maine Stage Company and is past president of the Board of Overseers of Berwick Academy. He is also active in his church, serving as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and a member of the choir.
