In 2015, the office relocated to Tysons Corner. Paton had co-hosted a series of gourmet food and wine client events and ordered client gifts from Fern Street Gourmet in Alexandria over the years. In March of 2020, Covid-19 rendered the Tysons office building inaccessible. Paton Real Estate partnered with Fern Street Gourmet and is now located inside Fern Street Gourmet at 1708 Fern Street, Alexandria, VA 22302. Principal Broker Donna Paton, a native Washingtonian, earned her bachelor's degree in Management and Consumer Affairs from the University of Maryland, College Park. She worked with Raytheon Service Company, Advanced Technology and RCI serving different branches of the U.S. Military and the Saudi Naval Expansion Program. She held a top-secret clearance. Paton began her real estate career in 1987, as Director of Sales and Marketing for Fishing Creek Farm, a 200-acre residential waterfront community in Annapolis, MD. with 180 lots for sale. Her clients include custom builders and buyers of custom homes starting at $1,350,000.00. In 1990, Donna moved to McLean, Virginia and worked as an international business consultant traveling frequently to many countries in Europe and Asia. Later, she became the Director of Communications at Sonitrol Corporation, an international security firm headquartered in Alexandria, VA. In 1996, Paton listed and sold homes for Weichert, Realtors McLean until 2002 when she opened Paton Real Estate, LLC.

2) What advice would you give a seller trying to sell their home?
If you plan to make any improvements to prepare the house for sale, choose an agent who coordinates and manages all aspects for you. We create a plan to help you meet your goals. We carefully choose suitable contractors and bring you bids on what needs to be done to maximize your sales price. We manage the entire process for you. We will send a crew to sort out donations from the items you wish to keep. We have movers who will pack and store your items. We have the property updated, staged and ready for the professional photo shoot done in 7 days or less. Then we have the open house and bring you the offers. All you need to do is call. Show us your house and we will do the rest.
3) What types of clients have you worked with?
I am so grateful to have the best clients on the planet from all walks of life! I love all of my clients and do not rest until I make their real estate goals and dreams a reality. I represent sellers all over Northern Virginia, Maryland and DC. My clients include many famous people from the sports world, government leaders, top level military officials, CEOs of major corporations, as well as, first time buyers, repeat investors, architects and builders who transform homes and resell them, family experiencing big changes, elderly clients wanting to downsize and young people who see real estate as a vehicle to wealth. Having held a top secret clearance in my previous defense contracting career, all of my clients rest assured that everything is kept strictly confidential for life. Your secrets are safe with me. I honor my clients and seek to provide the highest level of service and a wonderful, memorable experience for them all.
4) Describe a recent transaction you are fond of. How did it go?
I am fond of all of my transactions. I respect and cherish all of my clients and work hard to earn their respect. I smile about the current transaction next in line for settlement because it is always exciting. Recently, I sold a house for a client who lived there since the 1970’s and had no idea how to downsize into a condo. She adored the view of her backyard from the sunroom. I found a condo with a large sunroom overlooking the Potomac River with the mountains beyond! She gasped with delight when we walked in and said, “This is the one!” A particular favorite is my recent sale in McLean with my repeat client who has hired me 4 times over the years to represent her. I am very loyal and really love clients who are loyal as well. What a wonderful experience! (Thank you Susan again!!!)
5) How did you get started in Real Estate?
A friend from college invited me to a pool party at her new house where I was crushing it in a volleyball game in the pool. My teammate next to me at the net asked a million questions about my defense contracting career. At the end of the game, he said , "if you apply your skill set to real estate, you would make millions!" He arranged a meeting the next week with one of DC's largest developers. It took him a year to convince me. I became the Director of Project Marketing and Sales at Fishing Creek Farm in Annapolis, MD selling parcels of land to builders and custom homes to buyers. My first home sale was $1,350,000.00 (in 1987). That day I was sold on my new career in real estate and have loved it ever since!
6) Do you have any special education or training that will benefit your clients?
I am a believer in education and always expanding your knowledge and skill set. I constantly take classes and earn designations. I earned the Senior Real Estate Specialist designation and gained valuable knowledge to help the elderly with the specific needs and issues they may encounter in a real estate transaction. I also value the e-PRO designation which keeps me on top of the ever changing technology I can employ in service my clients. I am also a Virginia State Licensed Salesperson Instruction which keeps me up to date. Also, I am a qualified Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) instructor to teach first time buyer classes.
1) What advice would you give a buyer trying to purchase a home?
When you are shopping for a home and you think you have found "the one" except there is one thing about the house that rubs you the wrong way, KEEP SHOPPING! Often times that one little thing will become the big thing that makes you want to move sooner than you planned
