He offered suggestions to make the property more desirable, and even helped with some of the physical work in getting the property ready for sale, but he let me make all the final decisions with no pressure from him. When I agreed to be my best friend's executor I didn't really know how adrift I would feel, particularly when it came to selling a home 300 miles from my own. When I got to Portland I interviewed 3 realtors. Alex just stood out for a number of reasons. He had handled homes sold by distanced executors before, and he knew exactly what should be done to maximize the sale potential of the house without creating huge remodeling expenses that may or may not be recouped. He was also quietly competent. Alex set a date to get the house on the market and managed to coordinate cleaners, painters, floor refinishers, and gardeners to be in and out of the house by that date. Three days after going on the market we had a full price offer. After the inspection there were two fairly major repairs that had to be done, and again, Alex had them completed without having to move the closing date. There was never a day that I didn't feel confident about what was happening in Portland because Alex is great at communicating by text, email or phone. The entire process was handled via electronic signature in my home 300+ miles away. I would recommend Alex to anyone who would listen. I know that friends in Portland were also impressed just meeting him and witnessing how he handled this transaction. Thank you, Alex! You were such a such a bright spot in a bleak time for me.
