Will a ramp and grab bars hurt our selling price?

There is a wooden handicap ramp up the front of the house and grab bars in the shower and bath. Will these permanently installed features reduce the selling price?

It should not "hurt", opinions vary. For some experienced, mature buyers they could be viewed as a plus. Speak with a local Realtor to see what your home needs to achieve top dollar. Usually deferred maintenance are the items we focus on when listing properties for sellers. Best of luck in your home sale! Spirit

Hello Fay, absolutely NOT right now is the best time to sell, buyers are buying all homes no matter what additions the homeowners did to the house. You installing bars or anything does not matter in today's market. The time to sell is now let me know if I can help in any way. - Alfred

No. It may help actually. You are selling right now, but when you are buying your new place, don't you think if you see a home with grab bars and ramp it will give it a competitive advantage because you don't have to install it?

Hello, You should not concern yourself with what will happen with the value. If it is necessary that you add features to your home to make your home more comfortable and easier for you to move about the home, definitely DO IT!! Most people today buying homes are looking for good bones and a safe neighborhood. They can make the necessary changes if necessary. Right Now Do What You Need To Do!! Good Luck

Handicap equipt is desirable for those who need it. Those who need it cannot find a home with this equipt in it. With Baby Boomers aging into the likely hood of wanting such a well-equipped home, this will enhance the desirability of that kind of property. Thus, adding the grab bars and ramp will become a desirability issue, not a value issue.
