Should I wait until the Fall to sell my house?

I have a friend that told me to wait until the Fall to sell my house. He said that it will be a better time to sell. And he said I may pay less in commission. Is this true? What are your thoughts?

Hi Sandy, This is a great question. There is no "one size fits all" answer. It depends on your goals and where your home is located. The best time to get the highest price for your home is during the peak real estate season for your market. For example for most of Florida between late fall and early to mid spring can be a great time because all of the snow birds are looking to get away from the snow and are vacationing in Florida. For other states the spring/summer market is the ideal time to list a home. I recommend finding an expert real estate agent in your area to help you navigate the local market and make this decision customized with your goals. This year with the change in how real estate agents who represent buyers are paid you may find yourself being able to save some money on the real estate commissions. This too is a question for your local agent. There are several other factors that can affect the prices and demand such as the amount of other inventory on the market as well as interest rates.
