If my home is in my name does my boyfriend have any say?

If the deed and mortgage are in my name only does my boyfriend have any right to ask me to see financing or any money that has been paid in?

Is he contributing to the household financially? If he is contributing financially in any way and since the state of Texas is a community state, are you common law married? If so, then there could be some debate in that.

Hi Karin, a couple of questions would need to be answered first. 1) as previously mentioned, has he lived in the home and has he contributed to the household bills for at least 2 years? 2) when you file your taxes, do you file jointly? If yes if the answer to either question above, legally he has some rights as Texas is a community state and you are considered married under common law. But if the answers to the above are No, if the loan and deed are in your name only, he has no say. I am not an attorney and further questions and clarification should be directed to a real estate attorney.

  • If I sell my home, will my boyfriend receive part of the sale?

I wanted some clarification before deciding to put my home on the market. My boyfriend and I purchased a home together several years ago. We split up so he signed a quitclaim deed but is obviously still on the loan. If I want to sell my home that I have been making payments on myself for the last 8 years. Does he need to sign anything and would he be entitled to any of the sale money?
